Let's Play Some NSFW Demos! – Part 2
"Let's Play Some NSFW Demos!" O&T Posts
Welcome to the first installment of the Let’s Play Some NSFW Demos! | LPSNWD series! Since YouTube is going to take my video down, and WordPress wants me to pay a subscription to Embed the video into the post, I compressed it into a ZIP file and uploaded it to Google Drive. The reason for showing NSFW games is to break the stigma. There's sexual content in books, movies, comics, graphic novels, anime, manga, and other forms of media and entertainment, so, of course, it belongs in games as well. If you don't think adult themes belong in games because you think games are for kids, I HIGHLY suggest unpacking the belief.
The other reason I'm showing NSFW games is because I don't like censorship and things being challenged because they make people uncomfortable. You not liking something means YOU don't engage with it. It doesn't give you the right to tell everyone else, "No."
RULES!
Typically, there are 4 demos. Each demo gets 30 minutes, not including the adjustment of settings and character creation. I might up it to 5 and/or play a great game for longer if there are technical issues. And NO AI's spit, aka. plagiarism laundering.
To avoid triggering people, I avoided games that included violent rape, or, as people who don't want to be demonetized by certain platforms put it, "non-consensual" or "involuntary" sex. There are a myriad of reasons as to why it would show up in games, just like they show up in other forms of media, but I'm not showing it here, unless there's a learning opportunity. A lesson learned from the Pilot episode, LPSNWD 1! is the password if you want to see the blog post.
I will show games that downplay their "non-consensual sex" and explain why doing so could be problematic and cause some issues with those who do not have a strong understanding or grasp of consent.
The 4 demos I, attempted, to play for your enjoyment are:
- Margaret's sin, published by Sei-ren - Planned Release Date: May 2025 Margaret is a pious, humble woman who’s been left alone after a brief marriage. Margaret's sin and Spooky Milk Life's demos are also on itch.io!
Why was it an "attempt" to play? Because the writing for Whispered Promises got on my nerves, so I cut it short. That, and because Spooky Milk Life crashing caused StreamLabs to crash, which cost me about half my footage.
However, I will still be able to render a verdict, via the "Layered Compliment Sandwich":
Margaret's sin had us playing an MC, male character, in this visual novel, which is usually what happens with these games, so I wasn't surprised. In case you haven't noticed, they're mostly catered to men. I'm bi, so I enjoy these, too. The main reason why this game was so problematic was, mostly, because of all the religious messaging and demonization of sex. You're not "corrupted" when you have sex. God doesn't love you less after you have sex, and anyone who teaches this needs to go through de-programming to get out of the cult of religion, and the people they teach need the same. But what were we supposed to expect from a game with the word "sin" in it and a description with the word "pious"? The best part about the demo was the fact it was in the process of turning the sex demonization on its head before ending. The next most problematic thing about the demo was the MC damn near immediately objectifying Margaret. They made up for it, a bit, by realizing what they were doing was wrong. Good job. Good boy. The game has the potential to be sex positive and I am looking forward to the release.
Spooky Milk Life had me wanting to keep playing, even after it crashed, due to how BIZARRE it was! I'm glad I went back to finish it because... whoa! And it wasn't until after I finished the video that it occurred to me, while it was one giant sex/dick joke, the game was sex positive. And had I known it was going to end after I got the doll, I would have done the "dungeon" some more because we didn't get to find out what happened if the malfunctioning sex doll had its way with you, which is the problematic part of the game, which we'll get into. The combat was unique. The timing of the clicking of the mouse so an arrow, or something like it, stops in a particular area on a bar isn't new, but using it to dictate how much damage the ENEMY does to you? Brilliant! The art design was great, even if it had me thinking the college age protagonist was younger than that, which was also a problem. The disclaimer in the beginning about everyone being 18+ covered the developers' asses. Getting back to the malfunctioning, rapey sex dolls, it's an example of downplaying rape with humor. If they weren't dolls, would it still be amusing/funny? If so, then you need to unpack that. Yes, it's fake. Yes, it's a game. Men can be raped to, and if you can laugh at that, then you're desensitized, which means you'll be less likely to take a woman being raped seriously. If it's not a definite yes, then it's a No. And "no" means "no" under every circumstance. Someone could be traumatized by a malfunctioning, rapey sex doll. As long as you're aware, then have at the game. I know I will be when it's available, provided I'm employed.
Whispered Promises ~ 14 Days of Love with Anna had me asking one question, aloud and in my head, multiple times; who wrote this? The art was what caught my attention, and I stand by that, it was pretty good. And, while playing it, I realized it wasn't even problematic due to the fact the entire game revolves around consent. In the very beginning, Anna straight up says she's there for lewd activities; boom. What caught me by surprise was the introduction of Attributes, Knowledge, Intimacy, and Erotic, which was an amusing system. I was offended by the drop in Knowledge points after playing a video game. The mini game to get to the erotic scene was amusing. The Rock, Paper, Scissors mini game was more enjoyable than I expected it to be. The premise is great! 14 days to spend with your girlfriend during spring break? Brilliant! But, again, who wrote this? That's what threw me. I couldn't stand reading through the dialogue anymore. Everything else was great, which made me disappointed about needing to quit. Especially since it was the only game of the bunch that wasn't problematic.
少女妖精弹珠台 Elf Girl Pinball was the one I expected to be problematic and, yeah, it definitely has the potential to be, but I don't think the demo had the worst bits. I've never been really good at pinball AND I wanted to keep playing to get better at it. My biggest criticism was I couldn't get the game into fullscreen; the ball was difficult to see. The, technically, problematic part of the game was everything that could happen to the elf during pinball, even though it seemed like they enjoyed it, which, I'm guessing, is where the BDSM comes into play. The BDSM implies the consent, but I don't know enough about it to feel comfortable saying that definitively. And that's where the main problem lies. If you don't know what BDSM is, you think that tying someone up and hurting them is okay. You might even think that's all it is, and it isn't. What I DO know about BDSM is it's all about communication and consent. The DOM does NOT get to do whatever they want to the SUB. This bounces back to what I said in the Spooky Milk Life section, "'no' means 'no' under every circumstance" and it is ESPECIALLY true in BDSM. As long as you know that, have at the game. The pinball is fun on its own!
Overall, I want all but Whispered Promises, and they are on my wishlist.
As a reminder, Margaret's sin's Planned Release Date is May 2025, Spooky Milk Life is Coming soon, and Whispered Promises ~ 14 Days of Love with Anna and 少女妖精弹珠台 Elf Girl Pinball are both available.
And with the mini-review done, that's it for Part 2 of the Let's Play Some NSFW Demos! | LPSNWD series! Thank you for reading!
