Let's Play Some Demos! - Part 18
"Let's Play Some Demos!" Video Series YouTube Playlist
Welcome to Part 18 of the Let's Play Some Demos! | LPSD series!
For those who are new, I aim to introduce gamers to, usually, Indie games and to provide commentary and feedback on the games for educational purposes!
For this episode, I used some of the demos I had grabbed from the Cooking Fest and Cozy Quest Steam Events! I think. I grabbed a bunch during those events, and outside of them, so I don't know anymore…
Typically, there are 4 demos. Each demo gets 30 minutes, not including the adjustment of settings and character creation. Unless we have issues with demos, then I might up it to 5 and/or play a great game for longer.
The 4 demos I, attempted, to play for your enjoyment are:
- Meadgard: Beer and Plunder – Planned Release Date: To be announced
Grab your friends and embark on a mythical quest to create the ultimate Viking tavern. Serve feisty customers, meet a unique cast of villagers, and battle creatures and enemies as you explore the island for rare ingredients. Team up, discover new recipes, and prove your worth to the gods! - BOKURA: planet – Available: Apr 24, 2025
"Back to the same planet, together… That's all I wanted…" BOKURA: planet is a two-player puzzle adventure that explores cooperative gaming. Players take on the role of the crew on a space exploration ship as they try to escape from a planet where they have crash-landed on. - Teeny Tiny Town – Available
Proving that all good things come in threes! Welcome to Teeny Tiny Town, where you connect three identical tiles to evolve your city, merge by merge. Watch your metropolis grow from scratch, from 'aww' to 'awesome!' - Tower of Babel: Survivors of Chaos – Available: Coming soon
Battle hordes of monsters, acquire new skills, and upgrade your abilities. Customize your build with hundreds of item combinations and reach the top to fulfill your deepest desires. Conquer the tower in this thrilling roguelite hack and slash survivors game!
All links above are to the games' Steam pages.
Why was it an "attempt" to play? Because I didn't pay attention to how much Meadgard: Beer and Plunder relied on multi-player; I couldn't progress through Meadgard's demo without a second player. I couldn't play BOKURA: planet at all and I didn't have the patience to find out why.
However, I will still be able to render a verdict via the "Layered Compliment Sandwich":
Meadgard: Beer and Plunder was a delight! Until I couldn't proceed anymore, but that was fine. I got enough out of the demo to recommend the game to those who like bar management games. And has the friends to help. The game was designed well! The hand-drawn-looking map is absolutely adorable! It is a contrast to the 3D bar you manage, though. It makes sense since the introductory cutscene was in the hand-drawn-looking art, but I kinda wanna see the bar in that style. I also wanna see the intro cutscene in the 3D art. In case I wasn't clear, I enjoy the art style.
BOKURA: planet was a disappointment because I couldn't play. If you've been here a while, you know I love pixel art, and I REALLY wanted to get a closer look at it! But I couldn't get past the main screen. Sad face. What I saw looked pretty, though. Pretty sure it was user error, since I didn't read too much about it before trying to play.
Teeny Tiny Town looked great, which is why it caught my attention! The main issue I had with the game was the lack of guidance. However, the mechanics were interesting enough to where I, instead of rage quitting, couldn't help but keep going until I figured it out. The first time I read the description of it out loud, I compared it to a mobile game. And it had that feel. The design is simple, and not uncommon for a mobile game. You earn coins as you play, and it's set up to be annoying enough to get certain personality types to buy more coins, were that an option. And, I hope they don't add the option. By making it so we can't buy coins to keep going, it made me think for critically about my moves, once I understood the mechanics. It made my achievements mean more.
Tower of Babel: Survivors of Chaos WAS SO MUCH FUN! The first game that came to mind while playing it was 20 Minutes. I don't think I mentioned it while playing because I was too busy trying to survive. The skills you unlock are amazing and are a lot of fun to watch! Until they get overwhelming, preventing me from being able to see, but I think increasing the brightness will help with that. The art design was spectacular to the point where I remember how the characters were designed! We have the 3 different kinds of skeletons, the bats, the floating eyes, the slimes, the goblins, the giants, the blobby-looking spiders! I don't know what some of them are called, but I'm thinking of the multiple attempts as I type. In fact, it's the only one I was picturing as I was writing. I don't really have any complaints because everything that went wrong seemed to be user error.
Overall, I want Meadgard: Beer and Plunder, Teeny Tiny Town, and Tower of Babel: Survivors of Chaos, and they are on my wishlist.
As a reminder, Meadgard: Beer and Plunder release date has not yet been announced, BOKURA: planet will be available on Apr. 24, 2025, Teeny Tiny Town is Available, and Tower of Babel: Survivors of Chaos does not yet have a release date.
And that's it for Part 18! Thank you for reading!
